Future Symposium We need to talk! With mothers, fathers and their companies - about things that need to change after the Corona crisis

In times of pandemic, families are confronted with new burdens, restrictions and changed realities of life. Can parents and companies emerge from these experiences stronger for the future? This question will be focused in the discussion at the Future Symposium on April 20th from 10:00 to 11:30 am. Paternity leave has been reserved

In November 2020, the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth issued a dossier on partnership-based gender equality policy. The dossier includes various goals and targets, e.g. the introduction of an additional paternity leave of 10 days immediately after birth. Die WELT reports that the Federal Ministry has now made the decision against such an additional paternity leave. This decision is also assessed by the Federal Forum for Men

Quality standards for guarding men

The Federal Expert and Coordination Office for the Protection of Men against Violence has released quality standards for guarding men. Countrywide, violence protection offices should work standardized in order to offer men facing domestic violence the best support as possible. The quality standards can be found here.  

New arrangements for fathers and nursing employees

To improve the reconcilability of family and working life of men and women, new Europe-wide arrangements were concluded in January 2019. Fathers will be able to apply for a paternity leave after birth with a minimum of 10 days that will be payed amounting to the sickness benefit.

Furthermore, nursing employees will have the opportunity to apply for a carers leave of 5 days / year.
Moreover, parental leave will be increased to 4 months for each parent, 2 months will not be transferable and will be paid.

New studies according health of men

In these recent studies of the World Health Organisation (WHO) one can read about results and backgrounds of the difference in life expectancy between men and women. At the end of the article, you will also find so called „key actions“ that suggest institutional changes to improve the health of men and women in the future.
The current
 report „Who Self-Cares, Wins“ of the Global Action on Men’s Health (GAMH) puts men and selfcare- as a global topic- in focus and clarifies recent results and backgrounds.

Unlike mothers fathers rarely take advantage of the possibilities they have to combine job and family. They have got the impression, that their employer doesn't like if they take a time out for their family, that our society doesn't welcome fathers taking care of their children or that it is impossible to be occupationally successful and a caring father. Nevertheless you have a right to take a time out to care for your children (Elternzeit). Find more information here.

Equality policy for boys and men in Germany

The Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth has published a dossier on equal opportunities policy based on partnership. In this dossier, special attention is paid to equality policy for boys and men in Germany. It highlights how boys and men are reached and mobilized as addressees and beneficiaries of this gender equality policy and provides an overview of the current state of research and developments. It illustrates current and future challenges for an actively lived partnership in modern society and opens up new perspectives and horizons.
